Growing a Vegetable Garden
There's just no comparison between home grown vegetables vs. Supermarket produce. You just can't beat a slice of fresh tomato on a ham sandwich, corn on the cob or freshly picked snap beans. Having vegetables year round is a lot easier than you may think. Your garden can be grown just about anywhere from several acres to just a few plants on the patio. The outcome will be the same fresh, tasty, home grown vegetables for the table.
Can you remember what a tomato is supposed to taste like?
Thank you Matt
"Hippers" or "Pick Up Disk" used to draw rows in the vegetable garden. At least that's what we call them in my part of the country.
Thanks to Matt we now know what they are really called "Disc Ridgers". I searched the net and found a Cat I Hitch manufactured by Howse. Click Here
The EarthWay Seeder/Planter .... An excellent tool for planting larger seeds such as Sweet Corn, Snap Beans, Peas and Okra. This planter was designed as a walk behind unit. I constructed a seat which attaches to my tractor for those larger sections of the garden. See it in action while we plant our Snap Beans on the garden video page.
Seed plate recommendations and modifications by the LSU AgCenter.
Lucy's favorite spot when she was a little pup. Guess that's why she likes to ride with me on the unit.
An odd looking tomato.
Found this one today. Kind of reminds me of a little chicken.
If you run across an odd looking vegetable take a photo and send it in.

Cantaloupe:
The first two rows of cantaloupe are just about finished producing. The next two rows which were planted about one month later is starting to come in.
Cantaloupe Harvest: Here's 35 of the 115 cantaloupe harvested today. What am I going to do with all of em? Can only eat so many.
Cantaloupe right out the garden.
I'll let them sit out for 3+ days before putting them in the frig for cooling. Letting them sit makes them much sweeter.
After picking I'll use a magic marker to write on the outside of the cantaloupe indicating the date they can be chilled.
Can you find them all?

Compost Pile for next year's vegetable garden.
Low Tech - Low Maintenance / Using a combination of compost and potting soil to start my seedlings and when planting in the garden when the soil is a little damp works pretty well for me.
Photos from above. Thanks to my good friend Paul Juneau for the ariel photos of the vegetable garden.
